Age: 31
Canon Setting: A version of the modern world where magic exists alongside life as we know it, circa 2011. Natalie lives in the fictional town of Aviario, in southwest Connecticut, where more ley lines than usual cross and merge. The town is a potent source of magical energy and powerful ley spirits, and some of its residents use them for great good, to protect the natural order of things and the flow of power. .... Natalie is NOT one of those people.
Back in the 20s, Natalie's great grandfather Henry Marlowe decided it'd be a good idea to summon a supernatural entity named Iknara to help him stay young so he could be a silent film star forever. Iknara made the bargain, got pissed when Henry tried to weasel out of his end, and cursed him so that one member of his family for every generation would be forced to serve him until he can be set free. They all either went insane, or otherwise ended badly. Nat is... the latest.
Her mother Marilyn tried very very hard to get away from the reputation the Marlowes ended up with! She was an herbalist who used her magic to help heal people and married her college sweetheart, a nice young psychologist named Paul. BUT he was researching a new virus, got infected via a lab accident, and long story short for him, the side effects landed him in an asylum right before Marilyn found out she was pregnant. She raised Nat as best she could and tried to teach her to be proud of her family and that magic was a good thing ... until she god ovarian cancer and died when Nat is 12, and Paul was still locked up.
So Nat went to live with her dad's cousin Phineas, who also lived in town as head of the Historical Society. Early on, he took her to an estate sale, where she found an old stuffed rabbit who had seen better days... and spoke to her, telling her that her mother sent him to help her. This was, of course, actually the demon Iknara choosing his next servant, but Nat took him at his word and kept studying magic with "Bunny's" guidance. Phineas was highly against about the magic and tried to get her to stop. But since Nat saw it as her last tie to her mom... she threw a tantrum and uh, set the living room on fire, after which she got shunted from foster home to foster home until college.
As an English and History major, Nat met a nice Irish guy named Ral. They started going out ... until she found out he was sent to keep an eye on her because of the Curse and is part of the canon's kickass secret magic police, known only as The Organization. He tried to explain that he still believed she could fight it, but Nat was too mad to listen. They had a messy public breakup in the cafeteria, which Nat stormed out of, only to have someone attempt to assault her under the "Oh hey don't cry it's okay" tactic of True Scumbags. Ral intervened before anything happened, but that just Made It Worse.
A year or so after Nat graduated, Paul was finally let out of the asylum because He's Okay Now (spoiler: he's not), and he and Nat got back in touch... and now they both have massive revenge agendas. SO YEAH she's now a Daddy's Girl trying to make up for 30 years of lost time by doing everything he wants to make him (and Bunny) happy... up to and including murder. Wheeee ...
